INSIDE / OUTSIDE, Dean’s Office, School of the Art Institute of Chicago — October 2018-March 2019

Co-curated with Neil Patrick O’Malley, we considered the site itself — reception areas and offices within the SAIC’s Sharp Building — and brought together a group of artists who each have their own approach to navigating, responding to, and questioning their environments. The works exhibited investigate interior and exterior spaces, and are presented in relation to the formal interior setting of this administrative space at SAIC. From the virtual space created by digital technologies, to the history imbedded in development sites around Chicago, to the natural world the city responds to, the exhibition focuses in on the spaces and environments we might otherwise overlook, and encourages the viewer to examine their own relationship to the interior and exterior worlds they are a part of.
